Berkshire Lowland Search and Rescue, train on a weekly basis, in a variety of of subjects and scenarios, to enhance our search and rescue, medical, water and drone skills etc.
However this evenings training was coutesy of Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue, and their Biker Down team, which normally offer courses to bikers to help them cope should they encounter or be involved in a road traffic collision. Although this evenings training is not a directly related search and rescue skill, their presentation added yet another skill set, to our teams core knowledge that may one day save a life.
In fact several of our team have previously encountered motorcycle and road traffic accidents in their day to day life, and were able to provide immediate incident management and life saving first aid.
The subjects covered were, how to manage a biker RTA as a first responder, immediate first aid, safe helmet removal from a casualty, protective clothing and hi viz for bikers and techniques for drivers to scan the road for bikers more effectively.
We would like to thank the team from Biker Down, In Wokingham fire station for hosting our members this evening, it was certainly a thoroughly enjoyable and informative nights training.
